Planning Council

February 10, 2005

 

President Gnage called the meeting to order at 11:00 a.m. in the President’s Conference Room.  Those present were: Connie Dziagwa, Cindy Kelley, Dotty Muir, Joe Badgley, Pam Braden, Dottie Bibbee, Jack Simpkin, David Cunningham, Paul Daugherty, J. B. Skidmore and Curt Fulmer, and Patsy Bee.  Those absent were David Bell, and Kelli Barton,

 

President Gnage reported to Planning Council that we have challenges to face with the possibility pf budget cuts again this year.  She emphasized the importance of looking at other funding sources such as grants and partnerships.

 

Strategic Plan Updates

Council Members provided updates on their review of the Strategic Plan with individuals in the areas that they represent:

 

 

President Gnage reminded Council members to document what they are doing in meeting strategic goals so it can be duplicated in other areas.

 

Dotty Muir added that she is working with humanities division to come up with good chronicle feedback from students.  President Gnage noted that she would like to have students more involved.

 

Compacts

President Gnage reviewed two Compacts with Council members:

§         The Community and Technical College Consortium Compact was developed by representatives from our college and the technical centers in our seven county service area.  The strategies were developed to achieve its goals by 2010. 

§         The Institutional Compact was developed using numbers that were established by the WV Community and Technical College Council and each college is committed to the numbers but some of the strategies developed may have to change.

 

President Gnage asked Council members to share the compacts with others in their areas.

It was suggested that information be provided on the Internet indicating the importance of the Compacts and how WVUP has exceed goals set in past Compact reports. 

 

Budget

Jack Simpkin reported that a budget review summary of each area was being prepared by line item today and will be sent out tomorrow.  He noted that the requests this year are being compared to what was spent last year.  President Gnage added that it is important to look at individual budgets to understand how we spend our money and that it is particularly important now with the possibility of further budget cuts.
