Planning Council
November 6, 2000
Dr. Bitterbaum called the Planning Council to order at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, November 6, 2000, in the President's Conference Room on campus. Those present were Dr. Erik Bitterbaum, President, Dr. Joe Badgley, Dean of Academic Affairs, Mrs. Judy Higgs, Dean of Students, Dr. David Bell, Dean for Business, Industry and Development Services; Connie Dziagwa, Director of Communications and Public Relations; Dr. Sy Sarkarat, Business and Economic Division Chairperson; Mr. Gary Waggoner, Natural Science and Mathematics Division Chairperson; Dan Williamson, Director of Computing Services, Tim Beardsley, Counselor and Patsy Bee, Administrative Assistant to the President.
Dr. Bitterbaum reported permission has been requested to put examples of some past promotion and tenure applications on file in the Library for faculty wishing to submit applications to review.
Dr. Bitterbaum also reported that Doug Weaver had developed a web site for the distance education program which will be offered through the National Guard.
Next, Dr. Bitterbaum reported on the open meeting with the Enrollment Management Council and distributed copies of suggestions employees made on ways the college could increase enrollment and improve our retention rate. After considerable discussion, Council members agreed to send the suggestions to all employees and request they select what they believe would be the top five suggestions for improving enrollment and the top five suggestions for improving retention.
Dr. Bitterbaum asked Council members to review all the suggestions, make any changes for clarification return to his office by Wednesday. The final changes will be made and the document will be sent to all employees to be returned to the President's Office by November 20.
Dr. Bitterbaum announced Council members will review the results of the survey at the next meeting. He emphasized, that after the first of the year, we need to be ready to aggressively work toward increasing our enrollment and retention. Council members agreed that review these suggestions would be a good place to start.
With no further business to be discuss, the meeting adjourned at 2:30 p.m. The next meeting is scheduled for December 1 at 1:30 p.m.
