More than 160 area residents are candidates for graduation in Commencement exercises being held Friday (Dec.15) at West Virginia University at Parkersburg.
Commencement will be held at 7 p.m. in the College Activities Center. This will be the first graduation ceremonies presided over by WVU Parkersburg President Erik Bitterbaum.
Scheduled to receive their diplomas are students who completed graduation requirements in August and December. Among them are students who will be receiving WVU Parkersburg certificates, associate degrees and bachelor’s degrees as well as more than 20 who are candidates for WVU degrees earned on the Parkersburg campus.
Roger Allen, professor of speech and former chairperson of the Humanities Division, will serve as Commencement speaker. His address is titled "What Is In Your Hand."
Allen has been a member of the college faculty since 1976. He received bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Anderson College and a master’s in education from Clarion University of Pennsylvania.
Providing music for the ceremonies will be the College Chorale, under the direction of H.G. Young III, professor of music, and the Eastlawn Brass Quintet.
A reception for the graduates and their families will follow the ceremonies.
