West Virginia University at Parkersburg will welcome students back to campus Monday (August 20) when semester classes get under way.

A Welcome Back Week of activities is planned, according to Tom Yencha, director of student activities.

"We’re happy to have the students back on campus and have planned some fun events to get the fall semester started," Yencha noted.

On Wednesday (August 22), students can enjoy making their own free ice cream sundaes beginning at 11 a.m. in the courtyard. A free cookout from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. is planned on Thursday (August 23) and will also serve as the opening activity for the college’s new Student Union area in the lower concourse.

Registration for the fall semester closes at 4 p.m., Friday (August 24).  The critically-acclaimed Nickel Creek bluegrass trio will perform two public concerts  Friday evening (August 24). The 7 p.m. concert is sold out. A second performance is scheduled for 9:30 p.m. in the college multi-purpose room. Local group Shhh-Bang will open for Nickel Creek at both shows. Tickets are available for the 9:30 concert and may be obtained in the college Business Office.

The week’s activities will end with a Backdoor Comedy Club show featuring ventrioloquist Dan Horn and stand-up comedian Al Ducharme. The 8 p.m. program will be held in the multi-purpose room on Saturday (August 25). Tickets are on sale at the college; any remaining tickets will be sold at the door.

WVU Parkersburg students and employees may purchase specially-priced tickets in advance of the concert and the comedy club.
