West Virginia University at Parkersburg's 33rd annual Commencement exercises will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, May 15, in the College Activities Center.
More than 250 area residents are candidates for graduation.
Commencement speaker will be Dr. Ragina Copeland, professor of English, who is retiring from the college in December. She has served the institution in various capacities, including as college registrar, for 31 years. Dr. Copeland received her bachelor's degree from Fairmont State College, and her master's degree and doctorate from West Virginia University. Her address is entitled "These Here Walls."
WVU Parkersburg Interim President Joseph L. Badgley will preside over the ceremonies. He will address the graduates, confer degrees and present diplomas. James Skidmore, chancellor of community and technical college education, will bring greetings from the WV Council for Community and Technical College Education. Music will be provided by the Eastlawn Brass Quintet. The WVU Parkersburg College Chorale will perform a choral selection.
A reception will follow Commencement for the graduates and their families.
The college’s graduation weekend of activities will commence with a pinning ceremony for Nursing graduates at 7 p.m., Friday, May 14, in the activities center.
