WVU Parkersburg Education faculty member chosen for international leaders' program.

A West Virginia University at Parkersburg faculty member has been selected for an international leadership program.

Cynthia Gissy, assistant professor of education, will participate in the year-long Leaders, an international program for administrators and faculty in higher education.  It is sponsored by the National Institute for Leadership Development.

The program is designed to enhance skills participants need to assume major decision-making roles in their institutions, including institutional practice in supervisory and human relations skills, planning and budgeting, and organizational transformation.  During a week-long session in Scottsdale, AZ, Mrs. Gissy will be involved in discussions with national experts on the issues confronting higher education into the next decade.

As part of the year-long experience, Mrs. Gissy will be mentored by Cindy Kelley, chair of the college's Education Division, as she completes her Leaders' project on "Professional Development School Partnerships."

Mrs. Gissy received her bachelor of science and master of arts' degrees from West Virginia University.  She has been a member of the WVU Parkersburg faculty since 1998.

Leaders' participants are chosen for their professional abilities, their interests in advancement in higher education and the quality of their proposed projects.
