WVU Parkersburg captures third place in Marietta forensics tourney.

West Virginia University at Parkersburg captured third place overall at the 55th annual Ruth A. Wilcox Forensics Invitational Tournament at Marietta College.

 

Fourteen colleges and approximately 100 students participated in the annual invitational tourney.  In addition to WVU Parkersburg, institutional teams represented Alderson-Broaddus College, DePauw University, Fairmont State University, Geneva College, Grove City College, Heidelberg College, Hillsdale College, Kenyon College, Malone College, Marietta College, Muskingham College, Notre Dame College, and Otterbein College. 

 

Leading the Parkersburg campus team to third place honors were WVU Parkersburg students Yvonne Corra, Candace Hinzman, Cassie Mendoza, Jenny Metz, and Kaleb Smith.

Individual trophies were awarded to all five of WVU Parkersburg competitors for Informative Speaking, 6th place, Corra; Dramatic Duo Interpretation - 2nd, Hinzman; Program Oral Interpretation - 1st, Mendoza; Prose Interpretation - 6th, Metz, and Dramatic Duo Interpretation - 2nd, Prose Interpretation - 3rd, Dramatic Interpretation - 2nd, and After Dinner Speaking - 4th, all Smith.

WVU Parkersburg's forensics team is coached by Barbara Harris, instructor of speech.  The team will next compete at the Ohio State University Holiday Frolic, December 3-4 in Columbus.
