FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

West Virginia University at Parkersburg has been selected to house a national comprehensive fundraising resource center.

The Foundation Center Cooperating Collection at WVU at Parkersburg is only the second complete collection established in the state of West Virginia. The first fully functional center is the Community Collaborative at Shepherd University.

Participants in the Foundation Center's Cooperating Collections network are libraries or nonprofit information centers that provide fundraising information and other funding-related technical assistance in their communities. Cooperating Collections provide free public access to a basic collection of Foundation Center publications during a regular schedule of hours, offering free funding research guidance to all visitors.

"We are delighted to house the collection on our campus and serve as a learning resource for the area's grant seekers," noted WVU Parkersburg President Marie Foster Gnage.

There are more than 230 Cooperating Collections nationwide.  WVU Parkersburg's Cooperating Collection will be available to area residents whenever the college library is open.

"The center at WVU Parkersburg is quite unique since it not only is available to Wood County residents, but to the entire region of the Mid-Ohio Valley," said Stephen Hupp, WVU Parkersburg library director.

The project features a partnership of area philanthropic and foundation leaders.  Involved in the resource center are the Bernard McDonough Foundation, Sisters of Saint Joseph Charitable Fund, the Parkersburg Area Community Foundation, and the WVU at Parkersburg Foundation.

"The project not only brings a nationally recognized resource center and benefit for the college, but it is a multi-supported project that will improve grant seeking, researching, and writing at no cost to the user," noted Paul Daugherty, executive director of the WVU at Parkersburg Foundation.

The Foundation Center Cooperating Collection (FCCC) initiative is being coordinated by a collaborative team including the WVU at Parkersburg Foundation, Parkersburg Area Community Foundation & Regional Affiliates, and the WVU Parkersburg Library.  Underwriters' support for the project includes the Bernard McDonough Foundation, WV Credit Union League Foundation, and the Sisters of Saint Joseph Charitable Fund.

A ribbon cutting for the Cooperating Collection will be held at 2 p.m., Friday (March 11) at WVU Parkersburg's Library.

Since 1956, the Foundation Center, located in New York City, has helped thousands of grant seekers find information about grant makers and their funding interests.
