A special gift was recently received by the WVU at Parkersburg Foundation to support scholarships for students attending West Virginia University at Parkersburg.

A long-time friend of the WVU at Parkersburg Foundation, Goldsmit-Black, Inc., continued its tradition of supporting student scholarships at WVU at Parkersburg through the Goldsmit-Black Annual Golf Classic.

Even though the day was slightly dampened by the cold and wet weather, Goldsmit-Black’s gift to two local charitable organizations brightened the afternoon. Each year two charitable organizations receive proceeds from the golf tournament. This year’s beneficiaries included the WVU at Parkersburg Foundation and the Arthur N. Gustke Child Shelter.

Goldsmit-Black President Jack Bernheimer presented the $3,600 donation for the WVU at Parkersburg Foundation to Executive Director Paul D. Daugherty during the awards ceremony following the tournament. "This gift continues our long-time commitment to students at WVU at Parkersburg. Goldsmit-Black enjoys participating in this tradition that has amounted to more than $50,000 dollars in donations to the Foundation throughout the Golf Tournament’s fifteen year history" said Bernheimer during the presentation.

Goldsmit-Black’s donation to the WVU at Parkersburg Foundation supports the growth of the R.B. "Bernie" and Marjorie Bernheimer Memorial Scholarship Fund. The scholarship fund was established in 1977 as memorial to former Goldsmit-Black President and Owner "Bernie" Bernheimer after his untimely death in 1975. The name of the fund was changed in 2001 to memorialize both him and his wife Marjorie, who ran the company following her death in 2000.

"The Bernheimer family and Goldsmit-Black are constant supporters of the community’s college, WVU at Parkersburg. The Foundation and college are inspired by their support and belief in the great work of WVU at Parkersburg. The Foundation accepts this gift with the greatest thanks for their continued support," noted Paul Daugherty.

Since the creation of the Bernheimer Scholarship Endowment with the WVU at Parkersburg Foundation, over 82 students at WVU at Parkersburg have been able to pursue the life changing experience of a college education through this fund.

The WVU at Parkersburg Foundation is an independent, non-profit organization that raises, receives and administers private gifts from individuals, businesses and organizations for the benefit of WVU at Parkersburg.
