Business chair honored - WVU Parkersburg

The chair of the Business and Economics Division at West Virginia University at Parkersburg was recognized this week for his contributions to international education efforts in West Virginia.

Dr. Sy Sarkarat, professor of economics, was among educators from public and higher education nominated to be honored at the 2005 Cyrus R. Vance Award for International Education in West Virginia dinner, held in Charleston Nov. 14.

Sarkarat received a certificate of recognition for "outstanding achievement in international education."

The award program is designed to celebrate West Virginia's commitment to international affairs by recognizing those who exemplify Vance's dedication to international issues. A native of Clarksburg, Vance was Secretary of State for President Jimmy Carter; Deputy Secretary of Defense with President Lyndon B. Johnson, and Secretary of the Army under President John F. Kennedy.

Clark Egnor of Marshall University was named the winner of the 2005 Cyrus R. Vance Award in the category of postsecondary educators and institutions.
