FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Students at West Virginia University at
Parkersburg will notice little or no increases in tuition this fall.
Tuition will remain the same for WVU Parkersburg students who are in-state
residents enrolled in community college programs. The in-state community college
tuition will continue at $834 per semester.
Tuition will increase by two percent for all other students, including those
enrolled as out-of-state community college students and in-state and
out-of-state baccalaureate students. Non-resident community college students
will pay $2,946 (up from $2,886) per semester. In-state baccalaureate students
will pay $1,140 (compared to $1,116 in 2004-2005). Tuition for
out-of-state baccalaureate students will be $3,012. It had been $2,952.
WVU Parkersburg's tuition remains one of the lowest in the state and region.
"We are mindful of the rising costs of higher education and the struggles many
of our students have in paying their tuition," noted Marie Foster Gnage,
president of WVU Parkersburg.
"While we make every attempt to keep tuition low, we as an institution also deal
with increasing costs, including utilities and gasoline," she added. "We will be
seeking other revenue sources, partnerships and creative options to help us
continue to move the college forward."
The tuition increases are effective with the fall semester.
At its May meeting last week, the WV Community and Technical College Council had
asked that the state's community colleges keep their in-state community college
tuition levels the same for 2005-2006. WVU Parkersburg had earlier
submitted a request to increase its in-state community college tuition by two
percent but will continue that tuition category at its current level.
