FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

West Virginia University at Parkersburg and Washington State Community College are adopting a tuition reciprocity agreement designed to increase educational opportunities available in the Mid-Ohio Valley and minimize program duplication and cost.

Effective July 1st, the agreement makes it possible for Ohio residents in Athens, Meigs, Monroe, Morgan, Noble and Washington counties to attend WVU Parkersburg at West Virginia tuition rates for certain specified programs.  Likewise, West Virginia residents in Jackson, Pleasants, Ritchie, Roane, Tyler, Wirt, and Wood Counties may attend Washington State at Ohio tuition rates for certain programs.

“The agreement aims to minimize duplication of programs, promote maximum use of our respective educational facilities and address the issues of enrollment fluctuation and fiscal restraints in the Parkersburg-Marietta area,” noted Marie Foster Gnage, president of WVU Parkersburg.

"We envision that the agreement will be mutually beneficial for both institutions while providing increased educational opportunities for area residents," she added.

As part of the agreement, WVU Parkersburg will accept at WV resident tuition rates, any resident of Athens, Meigs, Monroe, Morgan, Noble and Washington counties with an associate degree who enrolls and satisfies all regular admission requirements (including those of the specific program in which admission is sought) at WVU at Parkersburg in the agreement’s specified programs.  These include WVU Parkersburg’s Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education, Bachelor of Applied Technology and Regents Bachelor of Arts as well as West Virginia University’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing (degree completion program).

The tuition agreement also includes the following WVU Parkersburg associate and certificate level programs:  Industrial Maintenance Technology; Multicraft Technician; Surgical Technology Certificate Program; Welding Technology and Welding Management Technology.

Washington State will accept at Ohio resident tuition rates, any resident of Jackson, Pleasants, Ritchie, Roane, Tyler, Wirt, and Wood Counties of West Virginia who enrolls and satisfies all regular admission requirements (including those requirements of the specific program in which admission is sought) at Washington State in the following associate-level programs:  Automotive and Diesel Truck Systems Technology (Diesel Program), Medical Laboratory Technology, Industrial Technology, Respiratory Therapy Technology, Radiologic Technology, and Physical Therapist Assistant Technology.

Any program offered by either institution not listed is excluded from the agreement.

The tuition reciprocity agreement has been approved by the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission, the West Virginia Council for Community and Technical College Education, the West Virginia University Board of Governors, the Ohio Board of Regents, Washington State Community College, and West Virginia University at Parkersburg.
