FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
A trip to the Carnegie Museum of Art and Natural History and the Wheeling Festival of Lights at Oglebay Park is planned for Nov. 16.
Co-sponsored by West Virginia University at Parkersburg and the Parkersburg Arts Center, the trip will include a visit to the Carnegie Museum's Louis Comfort Tiffany exhibit which includes 120 exquisite art objects by one of the most important decorative artists of the early 20th century. Son of Charles Tiffany, founder of the renowned Fifth Avenue jewelry store, the younger Tiffany is best known for his artistry in the glass medium as well as for the lavish interiors he designed for the houses of some of the wealthiest American industrialists of the period. The exhibition includes his signature art glass windows, lamps, mosaics, metalwork, pottery, furniture, screens, paintings, jewelry, and objects d'art. The group will also tour the entire museum after a guided tour of the Tiffany exhibit.
Following the Pittsburgh trip, the bus tour will visit Oglebay Park to see over a half-million lights adorning trees, landscapes, and historic buildings as part of the annual Festival of Lights holiday celebration. The group will tour the festively decorated Mansion Museum and see international Winterfest displays. Stops at Wheeling Downs and Jamboree, USA are planned as well.
Total cost is $99 per person and includes bus fare with wine and a snack, lunch at Carnegie Museum and dinner at Oglebay Resort. Reservations can be made at WVU Parkersburg's Corporate and Community Education office, 424-8277 or 304-424-8275.
