WVU Parkersburg to celebrate achievements of Honors College students.CONTACT: Gregg Busch, Honors College director, 304-424-8000, ext. 409.FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASEWest Virginia University at Parkersburg will recognize the achievements of its Honors College students in a day-long Celebration of Success on Thursday (Dec. 7).The honors students will be featured in an exposition of their semester projects from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the college's new community room. Students will share their research and active learning experiences through displays of their projects. The exhibition is open to the public.From 6 to 7 p.m., a reception will be held in the students' honor in the community room. Also being recognized will be faculty who served as Honors College Faculty and the program's Honors College Council. An honors seminar featuring WVU Parkersburg President Marie Foster Gnage as keynote speaker will be held from 7 to 8 p.m.WVU Parkersburg's Honors College is designed to provide enhanced learning opportunities for talented students in both academic and career programs to enable them to develop to their fullest potential, explained Gregg Busch, Honors College director. Students with a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or more are automatically members of the Honors College and may request honors credit from honors faculty.
"The Honors College is built on an honors contract system in which students enter into a special arrangement with honors faculty to complete a project related to a specific course," Busch said. "It is intended that the projects will challenge students to explore a subject in progressive, creative and innovate ways at a scope broader than that of the traditional classroom."Eighty WVU Parkersburg students have been involved in the Honors College program for the fall semester.cd12/04/2006
