FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASEWhen a donation is made to the WVU at Parkersburg Foundation, it is often difficult to quantify how great an impact the contribution will have on West Virginia University at Parkersburg and its students.
Thanks to the generosity of WVU at Parkersburg’s longtime friends, the Lawrence-Berrey family, students are able to experience the world.
Most recently, two students were provided scholarships from the Lawrence-Berrey Study Abroad Scholarship Endowment to participate in the college’s Study Abroad Trip. Students Ryan Coplin and Nicholas Busch traveled to the Mediterranean coast of Europe to tour Italy and Greece.
"It was great to receive this scholarship as I would have never been able to afford this opportunity," said Coplin, an art major at WVU at Parkersburg. "This trip allowed for me to get beyond the classroom and books and be inspired by the great arts and culture of Italy and Greece in person."
With the scholarship, Coplin and Busch were able to fly for the first time and travel overseas.
"The Lawrence-Berrey Study Abroad Endowment has made it possible for at least one and sometimes two WVU at Parkersburg students per year to travel to international locations that broaden their horizons," noted Dr. Marie Foster Gnage, president of WVU at Parkersburg. "For many of these students, it is the first time for them to fly let alone to travel internationally," she added.
The Lawrence-Berrey Study Abroad Endowment was created in 1989 by Dr. and Mrs. Robert Lawrence-Berrey and has made it possible for more than 20 students to have the life changing experience of traveling abroad.
"We are very honored and appreciative of the Lawrence-Berrey’s generosity," noted President Gnage. "Their support and the charitable support of our entire community is greatly needed for the present and future students of WVU at Parkersburg."
