Wood County Schools' Licensed Practical Nursing program relocates to WVU Parkersburg.CONTACT: Rose Beebe, interim chair of Health Sciences Division, 304-424-8300
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Wood County Schools' Licensed Practical Nursing program is now located at West Virginia University at Parkersburg.
"We are pleased the LPN program is on our campus," Joseph Badgley, executive dean of academic affairs, said. "It complements our health-career programs, especially our associate nursing degree."
By taking advantage of WVU Parkersburg’s LPN to RN program, LPNs can apply for advanced standing in the college’s nursing program if they meet certain criteria or pursue credit transfer and challenge examinations, noted Rose Beebe, interim chair of the college’s Health Sciences division.
"Through this career ladder, LPNs are provided an option to complete coursework to earn an associate in applied science degree in nursing and take the National Council Licensure Examination for licensure as a Registered Nurse," Mrs. Beebe said.
The LPN program is located on the same floor as the suite of offices, labs and classrooms of the college’s Health Sciences’ division.
"This gives our students an opportunity to make a seamless transition from our LPN program to the college’s R.N. program," said Doug Kiger, director of Technical & Adult Education for Wood County Schools.
LPNs care for the sick, injured, convalescent, and disabled under the direction of physicians and registered nurses. In nursing care facilities, they help to evaluate residents’ needs, develop care plans, and supervise the care provided by nursing aides. In doctors’ offices and clinics, they also may make appointments, keep records, and perform other clerical duties.
Wood County Schools’ LPN program is accredited by the WV State Board of Examiners for LPN's and the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission.
Most recently, the LPN program had been at Ohio Valley University but relocated to the WVU Parkersburg campus during the fall semester.
