Six WVU Parkersburg students qualify for national forensic tournament.

Six West Virginia University at Parkersburg forensic students have qualified to compete at the National Forensic Association's annual tournament this week.

The 2006 NFA national tournament is being held April 13-17 at the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire.

To be considered eligible for nationals, students must participate in sanctioned tournaments throughout the academic year and place as a finalist in each individual event. 

WVU Parkersburg students eligible for nationals and their events include: Jon Corra, After Dinner Speaking and Dramatic Duo Interpretation; Adam Heflin, After Dinner Speaking and Dramatic Duo Interpretation; Brittany Huffman, Informative Speaking, Dramatic Duo Interpretation, Prose Interpretation, and Poetry Interpretation; Rebecca McClung, Informative Speaking; Jennifer Metz, Informative Speaking, and Kaleb Smith, Poetry Interpretation, Prose Interpretation, and Dramatic Duo Interpretation.

During 2005-2006, the college's forensic team competed at tournaments in Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia. 

"There are not many community colleges that participate and succeed at this level of competition," Barbara Harris, speech instructor and team coach, noted.   "The students competed against Ohio State University, Fairmont State University, Marietta College, Marshall University, Penn State University, Ohio University, and Western Kentucky University, to name a few, and will now represent WVU Parkersburg on the national stage."
