WVU Parkersburg contributes to state's encyclopedia

WVU Parkersburg contributors featured in state's encyclopedia publication.

The new "West Virginia Encyclopedia" released this week includes articles by contributors with ties to West Virginia University at Parkersburg.

A publication of the West Virginia Humanities Council, the 944-page book features entries on every facet of the Mountain State.

Among those who contributed entries to the publication from WVU Parkersburg are H.G. Young, professor of music; Rob Anderson, instructor of history; Debra Conner, adjunct English instructor; retired faculty member Bernie Allen, professor emeritus of history, and Stephen Haid, former WV Secretary of Education and the Arts and history professor at the then Parkersburg Community College.

The publication was released Tuesday (June 20) on the state's birthday and involved nine years to compile the more than 2,200 entries. The last comprehensive, one-volume encyclopedia of West Virginia was published in 1929.
