WVU Parkersburg English professor selected for Institute of Peace seminar.

A West Virginia University at Parkersburg faculty member has been selected as one of 18 participants in the United States Institute of Peace Summer Seminar for Community College Faculty and Administrators.

Rebecca Phillips, professor of English, will attend the seminar May 30-June 3 in Washington, D.C.  Seminar theme is “Global Peace and Security in Community Colleges and the Communities They Serve.”

The program will concentrate on analyzing issues of global peace, conflict, and security and how they relate to the mission and activities that community colleges are engaged in today. The seminar will focus on the Institute’s missions of conflict analysis and prevention, conflict resolution and management, and post-conflict peace building. In addition, the seminar will explore various approaches to teaching and learning, as well as discuss curricular and programmatic options.

Leading scholars, analysts, practitioners, and policymakers involved in the study of global peace and security, and in the field of community college education will serve as faculty for the seminar. They will be drawn from specialists among the Institute’s staff as well as experts from the Washington academic and policy community.
