FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASEWest Virginia University at Parkersburg has received approval by its governing board to offer a Bachelor of Arts degree in Multidisciplinary Studies.
The West Virginia University Board of Governors endorsed the baccalaureate program at its meeting Friday (Aug. 31) in Morgantown.
The degree program must also be approved by the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission and the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. Those approval requests are in process.
WVU Parkersburg Executive Dean of Academic Affairs Rhonda Richards said the goal is to offer the program by the fall of 2008.
The new bachelor’s degree requires that students successfully complete 128 credit hours, including a general education curriculum; three minor areas; and a senior capstone course during the final semester of study. The program is designed to provide a flexible approach by creating an academic program that meets students' individual interests and needs.
The WVU Morgantown campus offers a similar program.
Currently, WVU Parkersburg offers five other bachelor’s degrees, including a Bachelor of Arts in elementary education, a Bachelor of Applied Technology, a Bachelor of Applied Science in business administration, a Bachelor of Science in business administration and the Regents Bachelor of Arts. It is the only community college in West Virginia accredited to offer baccalaureate degrees.
