FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASEA West Virginia University at Parkersburg faculty member is one of three finalists for the West Virginia 2006 Professor of the Year honors.
Phil McClung, a professor of psychology, has been selected as a finalist in the annual award program sponsored by the Faculty Merit Foundation of West Virginia.
"We are delighted that Phil is being recognized for his teaching accomplishments," noted Joseph L. Badgley, executive dean of academic affairs. "Phil brings a real joy of teaching to the classroom and his students appreciate and enjoy his zest for the teaching/learning process."
An awards banquet will be held March 6 at the Cultural Center in Charleston following a reception in the Governor's Mansion. At the banquet, the Professor of the Year will be announced and presented a handmade glass trophy and a $10,000 award sponsored by United Bank. The second and third finalists will receive awards of $1,000 and $500 and plaques.
McClung received an associate degree from Parkersburg Community College and his bachelor's, master's and doctorate from West Virginia University. He has been a member of the WVU Parkersburg's Social Sciences Division since 1990. Prior to that, he served in various capacities in the college's Student Services Division beginning in 1978, including a tenure as director of its Career Planning and Placement Center.
A popular instructor, McClung teaches courses in psychology, human development, personality theories, industrial psychology, ecological psychology, organizational psychology, and psychological assessment.
The Faculty Merit Foundation was created in 1984 to recognize and reward outstanding innovation and creativity among the faculties of West Virginia’s public and private institutions of higher education.
