FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

West Virginia University at Parkersburg’s Board of Governors continued to organize the institution’s new governance structure Wednesday (Oct. 8).

H.B. 3215, the legislation which created a statewide network of independently accredited community and technical colleges including WVU Parkersburg, directed that policies adopted by the WVU Board of Governors will continue in effect for WVU at Parkersburg until they are rescinded, revised, altered or amended by the Parkersburg campus’ governing board.

At its October meeting, the WVU Parkersburg Board of Governors moved to reject several policies of the WVU Board of Governors which are not applicable to the Parkersburg campus, including policies related to intercollegiate athletics, surplus property, and policies related specifically to WVU and its other campuses.

The Board also consented to minor alterations to WVU Board of Governors Policy 37, related to board meetings, and Policy 45, which addresses adoption or amendment of rules.  The alterations make the two policies specific to WVU Parkersburg.

In other action, the Board approved a revision in the institution’s admission policy that allows for additional options for test score submissions and amends the general admission requirements for international students.  The test score revision will make it possible for acceptance of scores achieved on Accuplacer, Asset or Compass tests in addition to the American College Test or Scholastic Aptitude Test.

The update to the admission requirements for international students will make WVU Parkersburg more competitive in the international students’ recruitment process, noted Anthony Underwood, dean of students.
