Two West Virginia University at Parkersburg faculty members presented at a national conference of community college teacher educators recently.

Cynthia Kelley, associate dean of education, and Cynthia Gissy, associate professor of education, were featured at the sixth annual conference of the National Association of Community College Teacher Education Programs in Denver, CO.

In addressing the theme of the conference, "Leaping to New Heights in Community College Teacher Education Programs," their topic was "Innovative Design to Strengthen State Mathematics Certification Policy."

WVU Parkersburg is offering a new experimental teacher licensure program for grades K-4 math specialists as part of its bachelor's degree in elementary education.  In the conference session, the audience was introduced to the new mathematics certification, local and state policy issues associated with such a change, and curricular needs for such a certification.
