FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Tuition at West Virginia University at Parkersburg will increase 4.7 percent for its community college and baccalaureate programs this fall.

The West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission approved the Parkersburg campus’ increase of 4.75% for its baccalaureate tuition Friday (May 2nd) in Lewisburg.

Earlier, the West Virginia Council for Community and Technical College Education had approved WVU Parkersburg’s community college tuition increase of 4.77% at its April 17th meeting.

Tuition for in-state WVU Parkersburg community college students will increase $87 annually (from $912.48 to $956 per semester). WV residents pursuing bachelor’s degrees will pay $119 more (from $1,250.40 to $1,310 per semester).

WVU Parkersburg's tuition remains the lowest in the state for community college and baccalaureate programs.

"We are committed to keeping our tuition affordable," noted WVU Parkersburg President Marie Foster Gnage. "These increases will be applied toward enhancing instruction and student support services."

Specifically, these include adding an additional faculty member in developmental math due to the increasing number of students requiring basic math skills’ instruction; updating the college's science lab area; funding initiatives to increase the institution’s graduation rate, and impacting student retention with additional tutoring assistance and online student services’ support.

The tuition increases are effective with the fall semester.
