FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
West Virginia University at Parkersburg will recognize the achievements of its Honors College students with a day-long celebration Wednesday (Nov. 19).
Honor students will be featured in an exhibition of their semester projects in the college's Community Room throughout the day, beginning at 10 a.m. Students will share their research and active learning experiences via project displays. The exhibition is open to the public.
Michael Stuart Curry, vice president for admissions and financial aid at Concord University, will be the featured speaker at the honors seminar presentation at 6 p.m. in Room 2209. A native of West Virginia, Curry was the first in his family to graduate from college. He and his brother were the first to graduate from high school. Curry received his bachelor's degree from Wesleyan College. He completed a master of divinity degree at Harvard University where he won the Hopkins Share, the most prestigious award Harvard offers. He is the only West Virginian to receive the award which is based on academic excellence and leadership and includes Horatio Alger and Ralph Waldo Emerson among its winners. Curry received his doctorate in theology from Suffield University.
Following the seminar, an awards ceremony will be held at 6:30 p.m. with a reception in the Community Room to follow in honor of the students and the special contributions of the honors faculty.
WVU Parkersburg's Honors College provides enhanced learning opportunities for talented students in both academic and career programs to enable them to develop to their fullest potential. Students with a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or more are automatic members of the Honors College and may request honors credit from honors faculty, noted Gregg Busch, Honors College director.
