Anthony Underwood named dean of students at WVU Parkersburg

WVU Parkersburg appoints new Dean of Students.

Anthony Underwood is the new Dean of Students at West Virginia University at Parkersburg.

A native of West Virginia, Underwood most recently served as director of enrollment management and student services at the Kent State University regional campuses in East Liverpool and Salem, Ohio.

"We are delighted that Anthony has returned to his home state to serve our students," noted WVU Parkersburg President Marie Foster Gnage. "We look forward to working with him and his staff to enhance the student experience at WVU Parkersburg."

Underwood was appointed following a national search to fill the administrative position. He replaces Dr. Danita Brown who served as interim dean of students for the past year. Dr. Brown accepted a position as associate dean of students at Purdue University.

Underwood received his bachelor's and master of arts degrees in secondary social studies education at West Virginia University.

He began his higher education career at Concord University in Athens, in the admissions office, serving as the director of outreach services. At Concord, he co-founded and served as the director for the Students of Excellence Summer Academy. His background includes web design, graphic design and marketing.

“I believe that West Virginia University at Parkersburg is an exceptional institution that has a great tradition of service to its students and the greater community," Underwood noted. "I am proud to have the opportunity to be part of that worthy tradition.”

He and his wife Victoria are the parents of a four-year-old son, Alexander.
