WVU Parkersburg Board of Governors to conduct community forum.

CONTACT:   Connie Dziagwa, executive director of institutional advancement, 304-424-8203.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

A community forum will be held at 6 p.m., Thursday (May 14), at West Virginia University at Parkersburg to gather input regarding the college continuing as WVU Parkersburg or adopting a new name.

Open to the public, the session will be held in the college theatre (Room 1305).

The community forum will provide an opportunity for area residents to express their opinions, Joe Campbell, chair of the WVU Parkersburg Board of Governors, said.  Similar sessions have been held on campus for students, faculty and staff input.

The board is conducting forums and an on-line survey as part of the process in determining the college's future name and direction.  The survey is available on the college's web site ( www.wvup.edu ) until May 17.

Recent state legislation established  a network of independent state community and technical colleges, including WVU Parkersburg, and removed WVU's governance responsibility for WVU Parkersburg.  The law allows WVU and WVU Parkersburg to continue an affiliation.  As part of the provisions of the legislation, the WVU Parkersburg Board of Governors has until June 30 to decide whether to keep the institution's current name or adopt a new name.

The Parkersburg Board of Governors will hold a special meeting at 5 p.m., May 18 to consider feedback from the forums and survey.
