FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASEWest Virginia University at Parkersburg students have scored significantly high passage rates on state licensure exams required in several of the college's associate and baccalaureate degree programs.
A 100% pass rate was reflected in the licensure scores of 31 graduates of the college's Bachelor of Arts degree in elementary education. The graduates are required to pass Praxis examinations that are part of the West Virginia State Board of Education licensure process. Graduates of the program are eligible to teach in kindergarten through sixth grade.
Students in the Associate in Applied Science degree in welding recorded a 100% pass rate with 41 out of 41 students receiving a passing score. The welding program provides instruction in welding processes leading to the WV state certification examination for welding. With the associate degree and a passing score on the certification exam, program graduates can be employed in professions such as construction, pipeline maintenance and structural metals building.
A success rate of 97% was recorded for graduates of the college's Associate in Applied Science in nursing with 34 of 35 graduates passing the WV Board of Examiners for Registered Professional Nurses licensing exam. These students enter the health care profession as registered nurses.
The passing rates reflect licensure exams given in 2008-2009. The scores are submitted to the state's Higher Education Policy Commission and the Community and Technical College System as part of institutional assessment initiatives. Licensure scores and pass rates are also used as indicators for state and national approval and accreditation of programs.
