FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Summer enrollment is up nearly 20 percent at West Virginia University at Parkersburg, college officials report.

To date, a total of 1,350 students are enrolled in on-line and classroom summer courses. This reflects an 18.6 per cent increase or 212 more students compared to last year.

"We have been strategically 'growing' our summer enrollment and attracting a number of transient students from other colleges who take advantage of our course transferability and affordable tuition," noted Rhonda Richards, executive dean of academic affairs.

"And the popularity of our on-line courses also is contributing to the overall summer enrollment increase," she added.

Sixty percent of students enrolled in summer courses at WVU at Parkersburg are taking on-line courses. The college is offering 66 on-line and blended delivery courses and 157 traditional classroom courses during the summer.

Final enrollment figures are expected to exceed recent summer increases in that there are several additional terms scheduled. A four-week term and an eight-week session begin Monday, June 15, and an additional four-week term starts July 13.

A total of 1,138 students enrolled in classes at WVU Parkersburg last summer.
