FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The West Virginia University at Parkersburg Board of Governors approved salary enhancements for college employees and a roof replacement project for the W.T. Grant building Friday afternoon (Sept. 10) during an emergency meeting.
Following an executive session regarding the salary proposal, the board approved one-time increases of $500 for classified employees and $1,000 for faculty and non-classified staff. The increases are effective Oct. 15 and will not become part of employees' base salaries.
The Higher Education Policy Commission and the Community and Technical College System authorized the one-time enhancements if institutions elected to do so.
Board member Keith Burdette noted that the board had earlier approved additional funding for the college's classification system, effective Oct. 1.
In other action, the board awarded a $400,000 project to Garland/DBS, Inc. of Cleveland to re-roof the college's proposed downtown center on Market Street in Parkersburg. WVU Parkersburg President Marie Foster Gnage said the goal is to complete the project before winter.
Sam Nagraj, procurement director, told the board that the project did not have to be bid out because Garland/DBS is part of a national purchasing consortium and guarantees the lowest bid.
The firm has offered to finance the project over five years at 4.82%. Nagraj asked the board for permission to pursue other funding options to seek the best rate. The board gave him until the end of the month to explore other financing which does not require using the building as collateral or to accept the Garland/DBS lease offer.
