Award-winning author Marty Essen will present his high-energy digital slide show, "Around the World in 90 Minutes," on Wednesday (April 7) at West Virginia University at Parkersburg.
The 11 a.m. show is free and open to the public and will be presented in the multi-purpose room.
Essen's show features interesting facts, humorous stories and the best of thousands of photos he took while traveling the world for his book "Cool Creatures, Hot Planet: Exploring the Seven Continents."
The slide show is the top booked college lecture for the past 17 months by the Association for the Promotion of Campus Activities organization.
Highlights of the show include amazing animal facts, debunking animal myths, cuddly wallaroos and spiny walking sticks, charging elephants and howling wolves, bizarre creatures and endangered species and surviving a hippo attack in Zimbabwe.
Essen has won multiple book awards for travel/essay writing, including the Benjamin Franklin Award, the Best Books Book Awards, and the National Indie Excellence Award. In addition, he won first place recognition at the 2009 Green Book Festival in Los Angeles and the Minneapolis Star-Tribune named his "Cool Creatures, Hot Planet" a top ten "green" book.
