FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

West Virginia University at Parkersburg has formed a Faculty Research Council to encourage the exploration of research in the community college setting.

Ten WVU Parkersburg faculty and staff members are participating in the council.

"We are taking the position that community colleges can and should do research," noted Dr. Rhonda Richards, senior vice president for academic affairs.

In addition to Dr. Richards, members of the council include faculty members Dianne Davis, Torie Knight, Craig Rabatin, Dr. Cindy Kelley, Dr. Joyce Kronberg, Dr. Vijay Shah, Dr. Marshall Griffin, Rose Beebe and Dr. Sy Sarkarat, and staff member Jeremy Starkey.

WVU Parkersburg has also joined the Southeastern Association for Community College Research and is the only WV college representative.  The association provides a regional forum for planning, coordinating and conducting activities which promote improvement of community-based post-secondary institutions.  SACCR identifies and promotes best practices in institutional research and planning to support and strengthen decision-making processes.

Dr. Richards is serving on the SACCR Board of Directors as a member-at-large and as the associate program chair.
