FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Approximately 750 students from nine Wood County elementary schools will participate in interactive sessions Friday (April 29) at West Virginia University at Parkersburg with children's book author and illustrator Mike Artell.

The college's Partnerships Project will be hosting students from Edison and Blennerhassett Middle Schools and Fairplains, Lubeck, Martin, Mineral Wells, Neale, Williamstown and Worthington Elementary Schools.

Artell is an award-winning author, illustrator, TV cartoonist, conference speaker, musician, storyteller and humorist.  He engages young audiences by sharing science facts from his award-winning books about weather, space, bugs and smells, and involving them in language arts wordplay.

WVU Parkersburg's Partnerships Project involves a professional development school relationship between area elementary schools and the college's Education Division.  It provides enrichment and remedial programs for public school students and professional development activities for teacher candidates, in-service teachers and college faculty.   The project enhances the preparation of the college's elementary education teacher candidates for the profession of teaching.
