GEMS students to learn about technical fields and nursing during WVU Parkersburg visit FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Parkersburg, W.Va. 4/11/12 – GEMS (Girls Enriched by Mentoring and Shadowing) students from area middle schools will visit West Virginia University at Parkersburg on Friday to experience demonstrations from faculty members in the college’s 3-D modeling, criminal justice and nursing programs. Following the programs, students will enjoy a luncheon where they can ask questions about the college and its programs. The visit will be April 13 from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Presentations include: The GEMS project is for young women in grades 7 - 8 in Wood County Schools who have been nominated by their guidance counselors to participate in this special program. Last year, approximately 30 young women attended the GEMS session at WVU Parkersburg. The GEMS project is sponsored by the Altrusa Club in Parkersburg and is designed to acquaint young women to careers and to college.
