Office for Global Initiatives at WVU Parkersburg hosts International Education Week

Parkersburg, W.Va. 11/5/12 – West Virginia University at Parkersburg’s Office for Global Initiatives will host International Education Week beginning Monday, Nov. 12. The series of three events are free and open to the public.

The schedule includes:

  • "Comparing Educational Systems in the U.S. and Abroad: Panel 1," Monday, Nov. 12, 11 a.m., college theater – This first panel, moderated by Emmanual Ogwude, will feature WVU Parkersburg students who are familiar with educational systems in areas such as Africa, Asia, the Middle East and South America. The panelists will share observations of studying in the U.S. and abroad.

  • "Study Abroad Opportunities: Experience the World," Monday, Nov. 12, 7 p.m., college theater – This program, led by assistant professor Jeff Byrd, and assistant professor Aaron Crites, will provide updated information about study abroad opportunities, including the upcoming 2013 excursion to Germany and the Alps and a state-sponsored trip to Quebec.

  • "Comparing Educational Systems in the U.S. and Abroad: Panel 2," Wednesday, Nov. 14, 11 a.m., rooms 2209 and 2211 – This panel will feature WVU Parkersburg faculty members who will compare education in the U.S. and abroad. In particular, panelists will consider the globalizing aspects of education, commenting on those countries with which they are especially familiar: Dr. Paul Cheng (Taiwan), Dr. Rosa Guedes (Brazil), Dr. Uta Hempel (Germany), Dr. Sy Sarkarat (Azerbaijan), Dr. Vijay Shah (India) and Mikhail Styrt (Russia and Ukraine).
