WVU Parkersburg’s nursing program receives continuing accreditation FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Parkersburg, W.Va. 4/13/12 – The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission has continued accreditation of the nursing program at West Virginia University at Parkersburg following a self-study assessment by the college’s Health Sciences division and an on-site visit in October. The next visit will be fall 2019. The Board of Commissioners identified student service to the community reflected in the service learning requirement of six hours per semester and the college’s financial support to increase faculty salaries to compete with area clinical agencies as particular strengths of the program. The program was found to be in compliance with all accreditation standards. "I am very pleased with the outcome. This unconditional accreditation demonstrates the dedication and commitment of the nursing faculty as well as the college administration to providing quality nursing education to our region," said Debbie Murphy, interim chair of WVU Parkersburg Health Sciences division. The NLNAC is a specialized accrediting agency for all types of nursing education programs. The Commission approved its visitation team’s recommendation regarding the WVU Parkersburg associate program at its March 2012 meeting. WVU Parkersburg graduated its first nursing students in 1969 and received its initial NLN accreditation in 1973. In addition to the AAS degree in Nursing, WVU Parkersburg offers surgical technology and pharmacy technician certificates.
