WVU Parkersburg, RESA 5 sign agreement to provide college credit for three state programs FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Parkersburg, W.Va. 4/9/12 – West Virginia University at Parkersburg and Regional Education Service Agencies (RESA 5) signed an articulation agreement today in an effort to provide opportunities to potential college students. The college will offer academic credit to students who complete the state’s Hit the Ground Running, SPOKES or Technology Next Step programs. "We are excited about providing this gateway for students who we hope will go on to earn their certificate, associate or baccalaureate degrees," said Rhonda Tracy, WVU Parkersburg senior vice president for academic affairs. "This is an excellent opportunity for students to pick up college hours," said Ralph Board, RESA 5 executive director. "The students work very hard, and this is will be a nice addition to their credentials." Hit the Ground Running is a four-week, 120-hour program designed to help adults become successful in their job search or preparation for a training program. Successful completers can earn a "Ready to Work" credential that includes a nationally-recognized certification in important workplace skills. SPOKES (Strategic Planning in Occupational Knowledge for Employment and Success) was created by the West Virginia Adult Basic Education program under a contract between the Department of Education, Office of Adult Education and Workforce Development and Department of Health and Human Resources, and in collaboration with the Workforce Investment Boards. Technology Next Step is a new program that will focus on technology skill development. The program includes such classes as introduction to computing, Microsoft Word/Windows and Microcomputer applications. "I hope this agreement will serve as a model for other colleges around the state," said Barry Kelly, assistant director in the West Virginia Office of Adult Education and Workforce Development.
