WVU Parkersburg students to perform as part of state Collegiate Honor Choir
Parkersburg, W.Va. 1/30/13 – Six WVU Parkersburg students were chosen to participate in the 2013 West Virginia American Choral Directors Association’s (ACDA) Collegiate Honor Choir Concert. The concert will take place Saturday Feb. 2 at 1 p.m. at the Clay Center in Charleston.
WVU Parkersburg, students Allison Butcher, Rachael Butcher, Alex Cumpston, Craig Kendall, Yiyi Ocasio, and Sydney Stoneking, will join other college and university singers from around the state under the direction of Dr. Hugh Floyd of Furman University for the concert. Tickets for the performance are $5 and may be purchased at the Clay Center box office by calling 304-561-3570.
"I am proud that WVU Parkersburg has been represented in every collegiate honor choir to date and is the only regularly participating institution without a music degree program. It is a wonderful experience for selected members of our College Chorale," said Dr. H.G. Young III, professor of music at WVU Parkersburg.
The ACDA is a nonprofit music-education organization whose central purpose is to promote excellence in choral music through performance, composition, publication, research and teaching. The West Virginia chapter of the ACDA Collegiate Honor Choir began in 1993 and brings together outstanding singers from the state's public and private colleges and universities to perform under a distinguished guest conductor.
