Course Description:
Business 111 is an introductory core course in the study of business. It is an overview of the structure of American business, management and organization, human resources, financial management, production, labor-management relations, marketing, and accounting, as well as the global dimensions of business and social responsibilities of business.
Course Goals and Objectives:
To introduce students to the various dimensions of business and to help students to understand the ways in which businesses have an impact and to obtain a clearer understanding of the ways in which business works.
To provide students with a good working vocabulary of business terminology.
To introduce students to the many career possibilities in business
Students are expected to attend all classes except in cases of sickness, accident, or other situations of extreme emergency. Final course grades can be adversely affected by a record of excessive absences. Such a record of absence from class may result in a course grade of F or FIW. "Excessive absences" is defined as any number of absences that exceeds the number of class meetings that are scheduled in one week.
ADS Attendance Policy
Because of the extreme condensed nature of an alternative delivery class, your attendance is MANDATORY at each scheduled session. You have been provided with class dates well in advance. Work conflicts, doctors appointments, illness, etc. will prevent you from completing ADS course requirements. If any of these events should occur, you are advised to drop the class and register for it again at a later date. Failure to attend any session (including the first session) will result in course failure. Students are advised to drop the class if they miss a session to prevent a failing grade on their record.
Portfolios
During the semester you will be required to complete a series of written assignments for each chapter. These assignments include some chapter review questions, Internet exercises, video case reviews and Fortune magazine article reviews. A complete list of the semester's assignments will be provided. All assignments are to be typed and neatly organized into a prong-folder (3-RING BINDERS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.) Ten points will be deducted for each spelling, typo, grammatical, or style error. Use a dictionary, writing handbook, and your computer spell/grammar check. Then PROOFREAD, PROOFREAD, PROOFREAD to be sure you have an opportunity to correct errors. Portfolios due dates are as follows:
