Faculty - Is Online Teaching for You?

Are you teaching traditional classes, but considering trying to teach online classes?  Be aware that teaching online requires the instructor to create and support an online learning environment that requires him or her to have certain skills to be an effective online facilitator of knowledge. You should seriously consider your computer skills, teaching style, attitudes, and habits before venturing into online instruction.  Take a quiz to see if you have what it takes to teach online.

New Student eCampus Usernames

In an effort to make the lives of online students easier, students will begin to use their Master IDs for logging into the eCampus. Most students should already be acquainted with their Master ID. The Master ID is also used to log into  campus email accounts and the campus wireless network.

Summer & Fall 2008 eCampus Orientations

eCampus Orientations for all Summer terms will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2008, at 9 am, 10 am and 11 am on the Parkersburg campus. Students who register for an e-course for the first time are highly encouraged to attend an eCampus Orientation Session. eCampus Orientation Sessions are held to familiarize students with navigation and tool use in the eCampus. Orientation sessions last 50 minutes and are scheduled at 9 am, 10 am and 11 am. Orientation sessions are listed online above the list of semester courses that are being offered at West Virginia University at Parkersburg. TurnItIn.com

Turnitin is a plagiarism assessment tool that works can be linked within Assignments in WebCT to instantly identify papers containing unoriginal content in student documents.

Students need to be fully educated about the use of Turnitin. A Student Consent Form should be read and signed by students before they are required by faculty to submit assignments into the plagiarism assessment tool. Students need to be aware that faculty may use plagiarism detection software on their submitted assignments. It is also recommended that faculty mention the possible use of Turnitin software on course syllabi.
