PLAGIARISM

According to the Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary, to "plagiarize" is
1)   to steal and pass off (the ideas or words of another) as one's own
2)   to use (another's production) without crediting the source
3)   to commit literary theft
4)   to present as new and original an idea or product derived from an existing source.

WHAT IS TURN IT IN?

Turnitin is a comprehensive plagiarism assessment system that quickly and effectively checks students' work in a WebCT eCampus section(s) in a fraction of the time than would be necessary to scan a few suspect papers using a search engine.

STUDENT CONSENT

Students need to be fully educated about the use of Turnitin. A Student Consent Form should be read and signed by students before they are required by faculty to submit assignments into the plagiarism assessment tool. Students need to be aware that faculty may use plagiarism assessment software on their submitted assignments. It is also recommended that faculty mention the possible use of Turnitin software on course syllabi.
