Attention All NEW e-Course Students!

Get your first online class started the right way by attending an e-Campus Saturday Orientation! 

Students who have never taken an online class at West Virginia University at Parkersburg are required to sign up for a fifty minute eCampus Orientation Session. Students are welcome to bring their laptops (not required) to get assistance configuring them to be compatible with the eCampus.

When?              Saturday, August 16, 2008
                          9:00 am, 10:00 am, 11:00 am - Parkersburg & Jackson County Center
                                                 
Where?            WVU at Parkersburg, Main Building Computer Labs (lower level of the main building) AND
                         Jackson County Center - Computer Lab - Room 301
 eCampus Orientation Sessions are listed at the top of the online course schedule Fall.
Visit the Records & Admissions Office or use OLSIS to register for a session.

New e-students who are unable to attend a session should send an email to WVUP-eCampus@mail.wvu.edu
with the words
eCampus Orientation
in the subject textbox to get access to an online orientation course in the eCampus.

During the live event, students will be able to buy textbooks at the Barnes & Noble Bookstore.

What is the eCampus?
eCampus is the name that has been given to the course management system used by West Virginia University and its regional campuses. WebCT eCampus (Web Course Tools) is the name of the product that is used to provide eCampus courses. Some course requirements that are made possible through the use of the eCampus include:
  • Corresponding with other students and instructors using email and the discussion board,
  • Chatting with other students and instructors in chat rooms
  • Viewing and downloading your course syllabus, lecture materials, and slide presentations,
  • Taking quizzes online,
  • Checking your grades,
  • Working collaboratively on group projects, and
  • Submitting assignments to your instructor.
Do I have the computer skills necessary to take a class online?
To determine if you have the computer proficiency required to take an online class, you should be able to answer yes to most of these questions:
  1. I know how to install software on my computer.
  2. I can download and install files from the Internet.
  3. I know how to work with multiple windows on my computer at the same time.
  4. I can copy files from a disk to a specified location on my computer hard drive.
  5. I can copy files from the Internet to a specified directory on the hard drive.
  6. Can I use email?
  7. Can I create a file and attach it to an email message?
  8. Do I know how to use word processing software?

Take a quiz to see if you are ready to learn online.

If you answered yes to most or all the questions above, you should have the proper expertise to take an online class.
