Creating Multimedia Presentations

Introduction

Various formats are available for presenting information online. Many instructors have PowerPoints that they have used in their traditional courses. Already having a presentation completed can help instructors get a jump start on multimedia presentations for students.

What kind of presentation format should you choose for your online multimedia presentations?  It depends on what you ultimately want to do with the presentation. Do you want to put it online for students? Do you want to burn it to a disk for distribution? Do you want to upload it to a learning management system?

Impatica for PowerPoint
    Impatica for PowerPoint allows users to start with PowerPoints to create multimedia presentations. Impatica for PowerPoint converts the PowerPoint file into a compressed format that is optimized for Internet streaming. The Impatica file is typically 95% smaller than the PowerPoint HTML files.

"Impaticized" presentations enable the following delivery options:

  1. Online (as an HTML page);
  2. Embedded within an existing Web page;
  3. Within a learning management system (e.g. WebCT, Blackboard and Desire2Learn);
  4. Offline, such as on a CD-ROM; or
  5. As an attachment to an e-mail, a link in an e-mail or as a streaming e-mail.

Impatica for PowerPoint supports most of the features of PowerPoint, including text, graphics, transitions, animation effects and, of course, narration. Take a look at the  User's Guides and Manuals, Tutorials or the searchable knowledgebase to preview how easy it can be to "Impaticize" your presentation.

Impatica software is used by thousands of schools, colleges and universities to quickly and easily create rich media presentations that can be delivered to the widest possible audience, cross-platform, plug-in free at dial-up modem speeds.  Impaticized presentations cannot be downloaded from the Internet, so you do not have to worry about someone taking your intellectual property.  Watch the Impatica presentation on this page to learn more about the program as it applies to higher education

VoiceThread.com
     VoiceThread.com  is a really simple voice recording within your web browser that allows you to collect the voices of an entire group on a single page. All you need is a microphone and Flash Player 7 (or higher) installed. Upload your presentations and images and transform them into collaborative conversations. Use images: JPG, GIF, BMP, PNG; docs: PPT, PPS, PDF, DOC, XLS; and videos. If you've got a Flickr or Facebook account, you can import from those as well.

The Doodler is a new way of annotating. It captures your drawing as an animation synced to your voice or text commentary. Instead of seeing the final product of your thoughts, viewers can see the actual process. Doodling delivers a sense of live presence.

The zoom tool is modeled after the way someone who's near or farsighted holds a piece of paper. Click once to zoom in, move your mouse around to pan in any direction, then click once to zoom out. While listening to comments you can explore in detail.

Put your VoiceThread on any site you want, or better yet, put it on many. Embedding is easy and allows you to add group collaboration to any website. Whether it's feedback, critique, or group story-telling you're after, collect it how you want, where you want.

Any way you want it - from completely private to completely open and many many stops in between. Simple security settings allow you to adjust who can do what. Change settings as often as you like, so invite, uninvite, and then re-invite uncle Monte.

Comment moderation puts you in charge of the conversation. Safely curate one hundred comments down to the best 5 and turn an epic into a blast of succinct story-telling. Think competitive poetry slams, debates, singing - just to name a few.
