Rules and Procedures for Faculty Senate Committees [Established October 5, 2005]: Senate committees are of three types: (a) Constitutional Committee: The Executive Committee of the Faculty Senate, (b) Standing Committees and (c) Special Committees, created by action of the Senate. A Standing Committee has an ongoing charge that continues until it is abolished by the Senate. A Special Committee’s charge expires at the end of one year unless renewed by the Senate. Any committee not specifically designated as a Standing Committee shall be a Special Committee.
The Senate shall establish by resolution such Standing and Special Committees as it deems necessary. All Senate Committees shall be responsible to and report to the Faculty Senate. The resolution establishing any committee shall describe the type, charge, jurisdiction, and completion date of the committee’s charge.
Senate Committees shall submit a report to the Senate Chair one week prior to each regularly scheduled Faculty Senate meeting during the academic year. The Chair will forward reports to Senate members five days before each meeting.
The Chair and Alternate-Chair of each Senate Committee shall be members of the Faculty Senate. Other committee members must be members of the Faculty Assembly. Students and non-Assembly persons who may be asked to serve on appropriate committees are ex-officio members without a vote. Membership on Standing Committees shall be staggered terms of one and two years to ensure continuity. Special Committees that are renewed shall retain their original membership.
