Thoughts and Tips on Writing Style

Writing Overview:

For business writing, keep the analysis and reporting professional and objective.  Try not to use "first person" (I or we).

Follow an outline.

Write and carefully follow an outline before you begin writing the paper.  For short assignments, you need not include the outline in the final paper you turn in, but for all assignments, this will help you focus your thoughts and make sure you have thoroughly covered the issue.

Use the major topics from the outline as major headings for your paper.  Add sub-headings and/or paragraph headings to continually break the material into easily read portions.  This helps the reader stay on track with the topic and keeps the eyes moving through the content.
