The Partnership with Western Governors University

West Virginia University at Parkersburg alumni, faculty and staff now have another option for completing bachelor and master degrees with a new agreement between WVU Parkersburg and Western Governors University, an accredited non-profit online university that has been featured on CNN and NBC. The agreement with the WGU Community College Partnership Program waives the usual application fee (a $65 value), offers a 5% tuition discount during the entirety of a student's degree program, and allows WVU Parkersburg alumni, faculty and staff  to apply for the Community College Excellence Grant. Awarding of the Excellence Grant in amounts up to $2000.00 is based on academic record, readiness for online study, financial need, and other considerations.

WGU is a non-profit university founded and supported by 19 state governors to serve the higher education needs of of those unable to attend a graduate school or college in a traditional setting.  WGU is supported by over 20 leading U.S. corporations and foundations. WGU is the only accredited university in the United States that offers competency-based online degrees.

As an example of the flexibility at WGU, each term is six months in length and can begin on the first of any month. Tuition and fees are established for a six-month term instead of per credit hour.

Programs of study at WGU include among others graduate degree programs in teacher education, health professions, specifically master of science nursing; business; and information technology.  See a full list here
