What I need to know as a teacher candidate
As a teacher candidate you are held to a high standard in and outside of the classroom. In addition to a 3.0 GPA and academic requirements, teacher candidates must demonstrate behavior that is consistent with the philosophical framework outlined in the Teacher Education Handbook.
Teacher Education Handbooks
WVU Parkersburg’s teacher preparation program emphasizes the practical model. The model focuses on the theoretical, development, and technological aspects of the knowledge base that are prerequisites to the daily demands required to be a professional educator in a school environment.
Kappa Delta Pi
Kappa Delta Pi is an international honorary society in education. Those eligible for initiation into the society are Education majors who have been admitted to the Professional Education program and who maintain a 3.0 grade point average.
Partnership Education Center
The PEC is designed to better prepare teaching candidates for the profession. Teacher candidates are required to utilize hands-on materials during their field experiences. For this reason there are numerous resources at their disposal.
Joseph Badgley Minority Scholarship
The Joseph Badgley Minority Scholarship was established in November 2017. This scholarship is made available to self-identified minority students enrolled at West Virginia University at Parkersburg with the intent of completing a degree in elementary education. The first award was offered in August 2018.
