Troops Week at WVU Parkersburg Nov. 11 – Nov 15. 2024
Monday Nov. 11
8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. – Free coffee and donuts for student, faculty and staff veterans.
12:30 p.m. – WVU Parkersburg Art Club, Veterans Corps and the campus community are invited to gather at the Poorhouse Cemetery to honor interred veterans. An American flag will be placed on each veteran grave followed by a moment of silence.
3:00 p.m. – Veterans Day ceremony will commence with a Wreath Laying ceremony by Blennerhassett Chapter, NSDAR with guest speaker Melody Zimmerman, and the Marine Corps League Detachment #1087 Color Guard. The Veterans Day ceremony will conclude with the presentation of the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Humane Letters for the late Medal of Honor recipient Chief Warrant Officer 4 Hershel “Woody” Williams. Accepting the degree and special guest speaker on Woody’s behalf, is his grandson, Bryan Casey.
Tuesday Nov. 12
Military Pride Day- Show your support by wearing military-affiliated hats, t-shirts, or patriotic red, white, and blue apparel.
Wednesday Nov. 13
Potluck lunch for students, faculty, and staff veterans in the Veterans Resource Center. Hotdogs with sauce and slaw, pulled pork sandwiches, and chips will be available. Patrons are welcome to bring their favorite side dish, beverage or dessert.
Thursday Nov. 14
Cookies and coffee for student, faculty and staff veterans.
Friday Nov. 15
Cornhole, popcorn and military-themed movies in the Veterans Resource Center. Stop by anytime throughout the day.
