Student Discipline Process

All WVU Parkersburg students must adhere to the Code of Student Conduct. If there is a written report or written complaint filed with the Office for Academic and Student Affairs, the list below is a rough outline of the process for handling the concern. Please note that each violation of the code is handled differently based upon each infraction, so the information listed is for general knowledge, not a set guide.

Complaint received in writing to the Office for Academic and Student Affairs.

Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs interviews student(s), faculty or staff involved.

Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs attempts to informally resolve the complaint in an administrative resolution.

Possible sanctions, if found in violation of the code of conduct in this informal setting, can include community service on campus, a written apology, written report with reasons for community standards and restitution.

If unable to resolve this infraction at the administrative level, or if an appeal is filed, a Student Disciplinary Hearing Board will be called. All parties involved (the accused, accuser and campus facilitator) review the names from the list of appointees to the Disciplinary Hearing Board to strike the names of those members who are not desired to participate by the parties. Also, the student may draft a written response to the accusation/complaint, and assistance of an on-campus advisor is permitted. The use of legal counsel is permitted with at least 72 hours advance notice to the Office for Academic and Student Affairs. The list below is a rough outline of the Disciplinary Hearing Board Process; this information is for general knowledge.

A formal letter from the Office for Academic and Student Affairs is sent to the respondent with a copy of the complaint, the Code of Student Conduct and the Disciplinary Hearing Process.
