Overview of WED

The Workforce & Economic Development Division (WED) at WVU Parkersburg is committed to supporting the college’s mission of providing “accessible, life changing educational opportunities in a safe and supportive environment.” WED’s focus is on improving the personal, professional, technical, economic and development training needs of our students as individuals as well as for our local business and industries.  We provide high-quality, cost effective programs and consulting services which result in improved performance and outcomes for the participating individuals and business and industry partners.

A well-education and prepared workforce are the key to the Mid-Ohio Valley’s economic success. WVU Parkersburg’s Division of Workforce & Economic Development provides employers and individuals with a variety of classes and services.

Short-Term Certificate Programs: These certificates are created with input from local business and industry for occupational skills that are earned in less than a year. Learn more.

 

Learn and Earn: WVU Parkersburg’s Learn and Earn program partners businesses with WVU Parkersburg students. Businesses are able to give back to their community, provide mentorship and a future pipeline of employees. Students receive real-world hands-on experience in their field of study, mentorship from industry professionals and a wage. Learn more.

 

Community Education: These classes are affordable programs for all ages to develop life skills. Learn more.

 

Corporate Training: Is personalized training solution for businesses in WVU Parkersburg’s 7 county region. Learn more.

 

Entrepreneurial Exploration: WVU Parkersburg’s Makerspace provides the public access to tools and training for the purpose of creative expression. Learn more.

 

Kid’s College: WVU Parkersburg’s annual Kid’s College is a summer program  for children ages 8 to 12 to have fun and explore future career opportunities.

 

Teen Academies: WVU Parkersburg’s Teen Academies are for children 13 to 17 to explore future career opportunities including 3D Printing, CSI and Medical Exploration.
